Did you know that the Axolotl is believed to house the spirit of a Mexican god and can only be found in a specific lake region outside of Mexico City? It’s a huge Salamander that’s also known as a water monster.
They are the only type of Salamander that permanently live in water and can do amazing things! They can regenerate most of their bodies and even some parts of their brain. They spend their entire life in a baby like state and keep their external gills that most other salamanders get rid of as they move to live on land.
While they are almost extinct in their native habitat, Axolotl are very common in research labs and kept as pets. New reserves are being built to reintroduce them into the wild and I really hope they make a come back because they are sooooo cool!
