Did you know that the queen of England paid over 10,000 pounds for a Narwal horn, which is over 6.3 million pounds in today’s money? WOW! That’s a lot of money for a big tooth. The name Narwal actually means corpse whale, because the gray color of the mammal looks like a drowned sailor. Yikes…

Narwals are super deep divers and spend most of their time swimming upside down. They can store lots of oxygen in their blood and have really thick blubber to keep them warm. They don’t swim fast, but can swim for really long distances and eat fish whole by just sucking them in.

Nobody really knows why Narwal have their crazy long tooth, but some people believe that they use it to stun fish, or even use it to find holes in the sea ice so they can breathe. Cool!
